Cutting the Budget 2014

I decided to make this year all about the TBR and visiting Delighted Reader and her idea to keep track of her book shopping made me super giddy to do the same, so after some begging she created this awesome meme.

For this week I had 12.59

I did good and only added books that I really want to read. Bought the new from Jennifer Armentrout and the rest is from NetGalley.

Summary:

When club-hopping bad girl Tiara Kent is found dead in her plush Manhattan apartment, the killing has all the earmarks of a vampire attack. The ever-practical Lieutenant Eve Dallas has to deal with superstitious cops carrying garlic and stakes, as well as the ever-hysterical press. None of the wealthy young victim's friends seem to know much about the Dark Prince she has been secretly seeing. The chase to stop him before he kills again will lead Eve and her team into areas of the city that not even the most intrepid cop wants to visit, and into the very heart of darkness.

Now Magdelana Percell - there's someone Eve can picture as a murder victim. Possibly at Eve's own hands. The slinky blonde - an old flame of her billionaire husband, Roarke, from his days on the wrong side of the law - has turned up in New York, and she's anything but innocent. Unfortunately, Roarke seems blind to Magdelana's manipulation, but not to her shapely figure and flirtatious ways. And he insists that the occasional lunch or business meeting with her is nothing to worry about;and none of Eve's business. Eve's so unnerved by the situation that she finds it hard to focus on the Foster case. Still, she'll have to put aside her anger, jealousy, and heartbreak, for a while at least - because another man has just turned up dead, and the case is taking some strange turns and hitting some frustrating dead ends.

Eve knows all too well that innocence can be a façade. Keeping that in mind may help her solve this case at last. But it may also tear apart her marriage.

Review:

This was a darker story because Eve had to deal with a murderer very close to what her father once was and this made her remember those moments of terror from her childhood. I liked the different setting and this time the story was fast and brutal, because we can see how much Eve is trying to close the case, but circumstances are always in the middle. I liked the way Roarke was by her side in this case, even McNab helped a little.

Dez wasn't just Jasmine's crush. A gargoyle Warden like Jas, he helped her come to terms with her destiny—fending off demons and maintaining balance between good and evil. He was her everything...right until the moment he disappeared without a trace. It didn't help that Jas's father had just announced that she and Dez would one day be mated. Hard not to take that personally.

And now he's back, three years older, ten times hotter, ready to pick up exactly where they left off. But Jas isn't taking that risk again. Dez has seven days to meet all her conditions and earn back her trust. Seven days filled with terrifying danger and sweet temptation. Seven days to win her heart—or shatter it all over again...

Review:

I decided to read this novella closer to the release of the first book, because if I liked the waiting would be smaller. But this couple was cute and they made a great adventure together. I liked knowing more about Dez and even some of the stories behind this world.

For me the best part was that Justine and Dez knew each other for years, so in reality they were half in love before the mating. Dez needed to share more about his disappearing act, but their time together was really nice.

This was just a prequel but I really liked the way some of the information was shared. This is a completely different story and I loved the gargoyles, they are fun and very normal, after this first glimpse of the new world, I have to say Jennifer caught me again.

Summary:

The death of history teacher Craig Foster devastated his young wife, who'd sent him off to work that morning with a lovingly packed lunch. It shocked his colleagues at the Upper West Side private school. And as for the ten-year-old girls who found him in his classroom in a pool of bodily fluids, they may have been traumatized for life.

Lieutenant Eve Dallas, of course, is more hardened to murder cases. And this is clearly a murder case. That lovingly packed lunch was tainted with deadly ricin. And Mr. Foster's colleagues, shocked as they may be, have some shocking secrets of their own. It's Eve's job to get a feel for all the potential suspects, and find out why someone would have done this to a man who seemed so inoffensive, so pleasant;so innocent.

Review:

The killer was easy for me to find, but I was a little scared in the end when Eve finally got the confession, the reason for the first murder is so small and this time we could clearly see this was a psychopath all the way. I loved the investigation and have to say that Eve was right almost from the start and people need to trust her better than just to blame in the past.

Magdalena was a pain in the ass, and Roarke deserved the punch and so much more for the moments he made Eve suffer and even judged her love for him. Even Summerset was on Eve side, so you can see who is right. They managed to find their passion and relationship back, but that Magdalena deserved to suffer a little more.

Summary:

Susanna has found her true prince, and their happily ever after is just around the corner. But when Nate asks her to give up something precious to her, Susanna can’t help but wonder if it’s a sign that their love is not meant to be.
Susanna Truitt (Once Upon A Prince) is three weeks from royalty. She’ll soon marry King Nathaniel II of Brighton Kingdom. But when the government insists she renounce her American citizenship before the wedding, coupled with the lack of involvement by family and friends, her heart begins to doubt whether this marriage is God’s plan for her.
Nathaniel would do anything for his bride-to-be. But he knows his position requires that she give up a lot to be with him. Her life will never be her own — right down to her very identity. When she travels home to St. Simon’s Island, Georgia, right before the wedding, Nathaniel fears she won’t return. Gathering his courage, he devises a plan to win his bride all over again, and together they seek out a kingdom to treasure above all.

Review:

This is novella is actually part of another series, but you can read without a problem that I understood everything so nothing was lost. After reading this novella I decided to start the other series, like I don't have enough in my plate, but I found Nathaniel so cute, he made the story for me, his fight for a change and the way he treats Susanna was too sweet. Susanna had to change a lot after accepting Nathaniel wedding proposal, especially since his a King.

But I loved the way her family decided to help, but not impose and how Nathaniel family was there for him. This couple just needed a remember of how they are and their moments together made it so perfect. I loved that Susanna decided to think first about making a huge decision she was uncertain. Loved their families and this couple was too cute to be true.

Summary:

I’ve battled the Reapers of Chaos before–and survived. But this time I have a Bad, Bad Feeling it’s going to be a fight to the death … most likely mine.

Yeah, I’ve got my psychometry magic, my talking sword, Vic–and even the most dangerous Spartan on campus at my side, in Logan freaking Quinn, but I’m no match for Loki, the evil Norse god of chaos. I may be Nike’s Champion, but at heart, I’m still just Gwen Frost, that weird Gypsy girl everyone at school loves to gossip about.

Then someone I love is put in more danger than ever before, and something inside me snaps. This time, Loki and his Reapers are going down for good … or I am.

Review:

This is the last book in this series and I'm sad to say goodbye to Gwen and her adventures as Nike Champion. After all the dangerous situations and the drama around her personal life we can see that Gwen has grown a lot and found some way to survive and try to save the world. She's the only one with the power to kill Loki and make sure he doesn't destroy the world, but she has no idea how to do it, sure she has friends willing to help and the artifacts other Gods created that could help in the battle.

I loved this story, it's full of action and Gwen of course had to save the world. I liked this last book and the final battle. Vivian was such a terrible girl and after all the talking she demonstrated that in the end Loki chose the right person to lead his army. I loved the characters and how we got caught up in the battle. Metis and Nickamedis helped a lot. But Logan was perfect in this book, we saw these two growing apart but now in the times of danger, he always comes to the rescue. Loved the story and I'm not saying spoilers, so this review will be short.

Summary:

Esther Johnson answers an advertisement for mail-order brides to marry two men of their choice from twenty-four eligible bachelors. Then she learns they're werewolves. But the werewolf community at Cooper's Farm is very welcoming, and Xola and Kairu Cooper are extremely yummy. It's not how she'd planned her life, but once she finds a job, she'll consider their attractions. However, getting a job isn't all that easy. Oh, it's way better than in her old neighborhood, but there are so many other considerations. She's made friends with the other mail-order brides, and Xola and Kairu keep distracting her with outings and their wonderful bodies. Then Xola sees some people watching the farm and he and Okapi learn that there's something not quite right going on in the local BDSM club. Is Esther safe? Are any of the human women safe? And how will Xola and Kairu protect her when she's determined to go work in Coopersville town.

Photobucket

Review:

I do love werewolves and was kinda missing some of their crazy moments, so decided to read this novel, but in reality is a short book, more like a novella and a really great story if you like erotica and light BDSM, plus some furry hotness. The summary was a little strange and I have no idea how these women decided to become mail-order brides, but they are extremely good people and they have to choose a pair of wolves to mate for life. Strange thoughts right? But everybody took it well to the news and the first trio is fast in the works.

I do have to say Esther was not my favorite girl, but I loved Xola and Kairu, especially their friendship, because we can clearly see they have something special going. Both are very passionate in bed and they also have boundaries, worried about the other person, for me that makes a normal and very good relationship. Both are a little in love already with Esther, but we can see they are different and very hot guys. Loved the way they treated her.

Tonight's sinful dessert special…Valentine's Fantasy

The tasty dish from Benedict restaurant is everything Jessica Lafayette could want… or crave. And it's not the dessert in front of her—it's her waiter. A guy with dark, intense eyes that suggest he wants to slowly lick whipped cream off her skin. A smile so wicked it makes her insides lava-cake gooey. And a too-hot-to-handle body that was meant to be tasted…

Yup, Sam The Waiter is better than chocolate.

But what Jessica doesn't know is that her one-night-waiter is actually Sam Benedict, Upscale Restaurateur. And that her little lie about being from out of town is going to turn into a Big Deal. Now Jessica is in deep hot chocolate… because her Valentine Fantasy is starting to look a lot like a red-hot reality!

Review:

This was a super hot little novella and I can say this month Cosmo really hit the jackpot because I loved their selection and this time was no different. These romances are sweet and fun, full of flirt moments, but the best part for me are they smexy scenes.

Sam was such a nice guy and he treated Jessica like a princess, loved to see the way Jessica let go and enjoyed a very nice evening of hot sex, fulfilling that way her new year promise. Sam was super romantic and I loved they way this book brought to us both of their POV, so we could see what was going on after they went separate ways.

Loved their e-mails, super fun to see Jessica letting go and Morgan was a great friend to her, helping and making worst too.

Summary:

Once Upon a Prince, the first novel in the Royal Wedding series by bestselling author Rachel Hauck, treats you to a modern-day fairy tale.

Susanna Truitt never dreamed of a great romance or being treated like a princess---just to marry the man she has loved for twelve years. But life isn’t going according to plan. When her high-school-sweetheart-turned-Marine-officer breaks up instead of proposing, Susanna scrambles to rebuild her life.

The last thing Prince Nathaniel expects to find on his American holiday to St. Simon’s Island is the queen of his heart. A prince has duties, and his family’s tense political situation has chosen his bride for him. When Prince Nathaniel comes to Susanna’s aid under the fabled Lover’s Oak, he is blindsided by love.

Their lives are worlds apart. He’s a royal prince. She’s a ordinary girl. But everything changes when Susanna receives an invitation to Nathaniel’s coronation.

It’s the ultimate choice. His kingdom or her heart? God’s will or their own?

Photobucket

Review:

I decided to request this book after reading the novella that follows this story. I had no trouble following the novella and found this couple super sweet. This is a regular romance at first, but when Susanna discovers that Nate is actually prince Nathaniel things changed very fast.

I liked the pacing in this book and found their insecurities really normal, but Nate had to make some choices after his father died and the romance was left behind, but destiny brought these two together and it's clear for everyone that love is a bigger part of the equation.

Summary:

Technology has advanced in 2060 New York City, but childbirth has been the same since the beginning of time. And despite the brutal double homicide on Lieutenant Eve Dallas's caseload, she has to be there for her pregnant friend Mavis, even if it means throwing the dreaded baby shower. . .

But Mavis needs an even bigger favor now. Tandy Willowby, one of the moms-to-be in her class, has gone missing, just days before her due date - not even showing up at the shower at Eve and Roarke's place that she'd been looking forward to so much. A recent emigrant from London, Tandy has few friends in New York, and no family. When Eve enters Tandy's apartment and finds Mavis's shower gift wrapped and ready on the table - and Tandy's packed hospital bag still on the floor - her spine starts tingling.

Normally, this would be turned over to Missing Persons. Eve has more than enough on her plate trying to find out who murdered Natalie Copperfield and her fiancé, both employed at a highly prestigious accounting firm. But Mavis wants no one but Eve on the case - and Eve can't say no. She'll have to track Tandy down while tracing the deals and double-crosses hidden in the files of some of the city's richest and most secretive citizens, in a race against a particularly vicious killer. Luckily, she has her multimillionaire husband Roarke's expertise to help with the numbers-crunching. But as he mines for the crucial data that will break the case wide open, Eve faces an all-too-real danger in the flesh-and-blood world.

Photobucket

Review:

I only have one problem with this book and it's nowhere so important, but why the story stories had to be connected when there was nothing to think even for the first moment the two things have anything in common.

I loved the way Roarke reacted with the way Eve's superiors managed her new case, he showed a great deal how much he cares and we can see that she see things his way too, for the first time he was actually surprised and I liked to see this development in their life.

Mavis baby is finally coming and the scenes are hilarious, Eve and Roarke and super afraid of the actual delivery and they are trying really hard to make things easier for Mavis, loved the baby shower and the way Eve "read" everyone in the room.

But the mystery was strange and a little creepy for me, things took awhile to connect and I didn't like the way everything was explained in the end.

Summary:

When Sheikh Sharif offers Irene Taylor more money as chaperone to his sister than she's ever made before, she can't refuse—finally she'll safeguard her family. Irene may be innocent, but she knows the trail of destruction playboys like Sharif leave behind, and will resist his skilled seduction….

Sharif excels at everything he does—especially in the bedroom! His engagement hasn't yet been announced and he'll enjoy his freedom until then. Starting with the beguiling Irene—she's the ideal final challenge before he embarks on a life of duty.

But sometimes even the plans of a sheikh go awry!

Review:

I've read some reviews of this book and people have some serious problems with the book never having a real sex scene, but this is a sheikh story so I expected some boundaries from the couple. There's way too much scenes with a sheikh and a hot desert night, but in reality this book felt more real to me because it showed the different world where people are actually virgin in the wedding night.

I loved Irene and her morals, she's a sweet girl and never expected to fall in love with a big badass sheikh, she just wanted a quiet life with a guy that loved her, but we have this girl following a job offer and putting Sharif in his place. Loved thier converstasion and the way Sharif followed his heart, but also his word.

Review:

I loved seeing John grow and the changes some dark moments made in his soul. We can see how much he loved Torh and the new life he was introduced to, but everything became more after he met Xhex and we watched that tiny and scared man fall in love. They sounded so different in the first moment and we watched things change over the books, so for me their story is more than just this book.

I loved seeing John and hs fight to have Xhex back after Lash kidnapped her, but the best of all was the way he made her change, not completely, but to accept him and trust in another person, she suffered a lot and we saw some stories from Darius past that are connected with Xhex.

The book is also about Quinn and Blay, we can see their relationship has changed and is now in the verge of completely disappear. Can't wait for their story.

Summary:

How to Land the Hot Guy 1.0

A multimillionaire by the age of 27, app developer Evie James is clueless when it comes to hooking up. So she does what any self-respecting geek-girl looking to get laid would do: she programs her own app for landing a hot guy. After a few failed attempts at making contact, beta testing leads her to Caleb Anderson.

Caleb is used to female attention, but finds himself attracted to Evie because of her unique brand of awkward. A master of one-night stands, he's more than happy to show her what she's been missing in the bedroom. But he quickly discovers that one night with a woman like Evie will never be enough for him…

Review:

Another cute romance, but this time a short story. I liked Evie because she's a little geek girl like myself and after her boyfriend dumped her we can see that she needed a night out with a real guy taking care of her and Caleb was perfect, he's only problem was following her afterwards.

I liked to see the change in Caleb and Evie helped him a lot, but the best part for me was how much Caleb helped her change her views about herself and be more sexy. Evie needed this boost in her self-esteem especially after the way her ex left her. Both changed in this novella, but they made a cute and very sexy couple.

Summary:

Used to cold silence, Faith NightStar is suddenly being tormented by dark visions of blood and murder. A bad sign for anyone, but worse for Faith, an F-Psy with the highly sought after ability to predict the future. Then the visions show her something even more dangerous - aching need...exquisite pleasure. But so powerful is her sight, so fragile the state of her mind, that the very emotions she yearns to embrace could be the end of her.

Changeling Vaughn D'Angelo can take the form of either man or jaguar, but it is his animal side that is overwhelmingly drawn to Faith. The jaguar's instinct is to claim this woman it finds so utterly fascinating and the man has no argument. But while Vaughn craves sensation and hungers to pleasure Faith in every way, desire is a danger that could snap the last threads of her sanity. And there are Psy who need Faith's sight for their own purposes. They must keep her silenced - and keep her from Vaughn.

Photobucket

Review:

I loved Vaughn D'Angelo since book one, but the best part was seeing him struggle to change Faith and make her accept this different reality full of love and emotions. She's the second Psy to abandon the net and we can see that after Sascha left things started to become a little difficult, but Faith was very important and her work is extremely powerful. Faith can see the future and the companies hire her to predict theirs investments, but after her sister died we ca see that her visions are changing and she decided to ask for the help in the only person to survive outside the net.

I liked seeing another couple and this time was a little more difficult because Vaughn's animal is closer to the surface after all the time he spend in animal form while growing up. But Faith for me was perfect because she's practically fearless and trusted Vaughn to help her all the way.
