Paranormal Review: Mine to Possess by Nalini Singh

Mine to Possess (Psy-Changeling, #4)

Clay Bennett is a powerful DarkRiver sentinel, but he grew up in the slums with his human mother, never knowing his changeling father. As a young boy without the bonds of Pack, he tried to stifle his animal nature. He failed...and committed the most extreme act of violence, killing a man and losing his best friend, Talin, in the bloody aftermath. Everything good in him died the day he was told that she, too, was dead.

Talin McKade barely survived a childhood drenched in bloodshed and terror. Now a new nightmare is stalking her life--the street children she works to protect are disappearing and turning up dead. Determined to keep them safe, she unlocks the darkest secret in her heart and returns to ask the help of the strongest man she knows...

Clay lost Talin once. He will not let her go again, his hunger to possess her, a clawing need born of the leopard within. As they race to save the innocent, Clay and Talin must face the violent truths of their past...or lose everything that ever mattered.

Clay was never my favorite but I have a sfot spot for the cats, they are more sexy and now exactly what to say and get the girl, but Talin was a good surprise because she's human, but not 100% percent, so things were difficult with this couple at first and they had a past as friends.

Talin only returned because she needs the help of Clay, but I liked seeing them together. And I think Clay needed her so bad, he was nearly giving in to his animal side and she brings passion and possession that made it possible to keep grounded.

Nearly in the end we have Dorian helping and I have the feeling his story will be very soon.

Erotica Review: Chosen by the Wolves by Cara Adams

Chosen by the Wolves [Werewolf Brides 5]
Nathanael and Justin Cooper want Siyandra Taylor, but they've held back from getting to know her better because they've seen how she looks at Roderick Cooper, CEO of Cooper's Farm and Alpha of the Cooper's Farm Werewolf Pack. But her time to choose is almost up, and they can't wait any longer. Roderick won't look at the woman he loves because, as Alpha, he believes he has to provide brides for his men before picking one himself. Siyandra has almost run out of time to fulfill her contract and choose a pair of bachelors to marry. She really likes Nathanael and Justin, but she's attracted to Roderick as well. Meanwhile everyone is on edge as the werewolves move to buy the BDSM club and put in good managers. But before the sale is complete, they really need to find out who is introducing the evil things there.

This series was losing the spark for me and I almost gave up, but the books are short so it was easy to fit one during the week. I actually had a nice surprise with this final one, mostly because of Cooper, we've been hearing a lot about him and this time we got to see more of him in action and it was nice seeing him outside having fun.

Siyandra was a nice girl, but a little bland for me. The book was all about the guys and how they finaly bought the BDSM club in town and managed to get rid of the mean bastard slaving the girls. Nate and Justin were great with Siyandra and they welcomed Cooper super well. I liked the shorty story.

Mystery Review: Salvation in Death by JD Robb

quinta-feira, 27 de março de 2014

Salvation in Death (In Death, #27)

When Detective Lieutenant Eve Dallas confirms that the consecrated wine contained potassium cyanide, she’s determined to solve the murder of Father Miguel Flores, despite her discomfort with her surroundings. It’s not the bodegas and pawnshops of East Harlem that bother her, though the neighborhood is a long way from the stone mansion she shares with her billionaire husband, Roarke. It’s all that holiness flying around at St. Christobal’s that makes her uneasy.

A search of the victim’s sparsely furnished room reveals little-- except for a carefully hidden religious medal with a mysterious inscription, and a couple of underlined Bible passages. The autopsy reveals more: faint scars of knife wounds, a removed tattoo--and evidence of plastic surgery, suggesting that “Father Flores” may not have been the man his parishioners had thought. Now, as Eve pieces together clues that hint at gang connections and a deeply personal act of revenge, she believes she’s making progress on the case. Until a second murder--in front of an even larger crowd of worshippers--knocks the whole investigation sideways. And Eve is left to figure out who committed these unholy acts--and why.

For me these stories always look similar but this time we had the first murder and a second one looking like a serial killer, but Eve was super smart and discovered that in reality the second was just a copycat. Different because usually her investigations are related homicides, but this time she had a difficult time discovering the reason to kill a priest.

Eve had a difficult time with the religion part, mostly because she just doesn't understand the cult and some rules, but Roarke was helpfull and she even got the help of a priest trying to do the right thing. For me the investigation was nice and the end during the interrogation Eve showed why she's the best.

I was disapointed with this book because Stella and Marshal were not likable to me and everything they did rubbed me wrong. She had trouble understanding his difficulties after years serving his country, but he lost his memory and has no idea who she is.

Another problem for me was the rush to the wedding when he was just now getting his life back together and trying really hard to connect the dots in his glimpses of the past. I don't think this was the right time for start a new life together. I understand they were planning and loved each other before, but a little time waiting wouldn't hurt anyone. Stella seemed lost in everything and didn't help.

So this book was not for me.

Paranormal Review: Lover At Last by JR Ward

Lover at Last (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #11)

Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has finally found an identity as one of the most brutal fighters in the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems to be within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another....

Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it’s about time: The male has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young- just as Qhuinn has always wanted for himself. It’s hard to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. As he’s learned firsthand.

Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions... but as the battle over the race’s throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn finally learns the true definition of courage, and two hearts who are meant to be together... finally become one.

I had this book on pre-order but for some reason I never got to read this one, the series is huge and I was a little confused about the stories since the previous ones. But this book is huge and I rushed until the end. Everybody loved so I knew what to expect, but for me the ending was a little rushed and Quinn was staying on the same house as Blay, but for some reason or another these two could not find an understanding and talk like normal people.

I liked getting to know more about Assail, he sounds like a great guy and a little like Rehvenge to me, but Sola was boring and I could not understand why Assail was so interested in the girl. Another great side story to me was the Shadows moving into the Brotherhood house, we have some very nice plot for the future.

By the way I like Layla and she was super sweet with Quinn. I still can't believe she's pregnant with Quinn's baby, but she's handling everything with grace. Loved the book.

Come Home to Me (Whiskey Creek, #6)

Home is where her heart is...

When Presley Christensen returns to Whiskey Creek with her little boy after two years away, she has completely changed her life. She's made peace with her past and overcome the negative behavior that resulted from her difficult childhood. Now she's back in the small town that was the closest thing to "home" she ever knew—the town where she can be with the sister who's her only family.

There's just one catch. Aaron Amos still lives in Whiskey Creek, at least until he moves to Reno to open a branch of the Amos brothers' auto body shop. And no matter how hard she's tried, Presley hasn't been able to get over him. Seeing him again makes the longing so much worse. But she hopes she can get through the next few months, because she can't fall back into his arms…or his bed. She's come too far to backslide now. And there's a secret she's been guarding—a secret she'll do anything to protect.

This story was not what I expected. This series always makes me cry in a good way, but in this book I couldn't connect with anyone and that left me a little unsatisfied. With also got way to much side story, and that has never happened before. I was not happy with the way Cheyenne handled her problems and it felt like a betrayal to me. I loved her book and it was not necessary to me the way she acted.

The real story was more of the same with Presley still in love and now she decided to move back home, so her sister can help her. The problem is super simple, Aaron the father of her baby is still in town and of course it didn't take a genius to see the huge disaster ahead.

I liked this couple, but didn't the way the author chose to simply forget about their problems with drugs, Presley we can see suffered a lot to get back on her feet and start over, but not in one moment is mentioned what Aaron did, when in the previous books we can see he was worst them her with addictions. I wanted to know more about the way they changed in this past two years. but that's only me.

Mystery Review: Strangers in Death by JD Robb

quinta-feira, 20 de março de 2014

Strangers in Death (In Death, #26)
Technology may be different in 2060 New York, yet the city is still a place of many cultures and great divides. But as ever, some murders receive more attention than others—especially those in which the victim is a prominent businessman, found in his Park Avenue apartment, tied to the bed—and strangled—with cords of black velvet.
It doesn't surprise Lieutenant Eve Dallas that Thomas Anders's scandalous death is a source of titillation and speculation to the public—and of humiliation to his family. But while people in the city are talking about it, those close to Anders aren't so anxious to do the same. With some help from her billionaire husband, Roarke, Eve's soon knocking on doors—or barging through them—to find answers.
But the facts don't add up. Physical evidence suggests that the victim didn't struggle. The security breach in the apartment indicates that the killer was someone known to the family, but everyone's alibi checks out. Was this a crime of passion in a kinky game gone wrong—or a meticulously planned execution? It's up to Dallas to solve a case in which strangers may be connected in unexpected, and deadly, ways.

This book was amazing for me. I was mildly curious about the sudden need of help from Baxter but the moment Roarke caught the connection for me things became easy and I was certain about the killer. The mystery this time was easy enought, but Eve had a hard to connect the dots and make the case solid.

I really liked this story and Eve is again in the middle of dangerous woman parties, now we two of her friends getting married and Roarke decided to help by lending the big yard for the wedding day, of course Eve was extra nervous about this, but I always love her interactions with friends.

I had a hard time with the story, especially the finale, so the rating was really difficult to me. I liked the build up and the couple, only a few actions made things awkward to me. I was well aware this was an erotica, but the girl is in love with one guy and their sex is amazing, but out of nowhere his brother shows up and thins became a little complicated.

For me the big issue was Jessica no knowing what brother to date, it was clear the reality and their emotions, so she a little unstable to me, because of that. I liked seeing Dane and Jessica together, but Storm to me was not a good guy and deserved to disappear for the drama he caused.

Summary:

Jessica’s life was in ruins…until she met him.

Standing in the rain feeling lost in a new city, with no job and no prospects, she’s about to give up. Until Dane Rainier pulls up in his limo and offers her a ride—and sweeps her into the life of her dreams. Now she has a high-powered job and is having the best sex of her life, exploring her submissive side under the masterful hand of a gorgeous billionaire.

But there’s a part of her that’s still holding back. Because the truth is, she’s never gotten over her ex-boyfriend Storm. A heavily muscled, motorcycle-riding rock musician, Storm couldn’t be any more different from Dane… and she just can’t get him out of her head.

Now Storm is about to reappear and turn her whole world upside down. Both Dane and Storm make her body burn to be possessed, but will her indecisive heart cost her the love of both men?

When he begins to see his beloved in his dreams – trapped in a cold, isolating netherworld – Tohr turns to a self-serving fallen angel in hopes of saving the one he has lost. When he's told he must learn to love another to free his former mate, Tohr knows they are all doomed . . .
Except then a female with a shadowed history begins to get through to him. For me No 'One was like a matronly lady always trying to find something to do or clean, but after reading this book we can see that in reality she has the same she died, so she’s pretty and young.

This book was better than the previous, but I didn’t liked the way Xhex and John were part of this story and their that for me was complete took a turn for worse. Don’t know why, but things felt strange for me.

I liked Torh and No 'One, she’s calm and very quiet but I think he needed a fresh start and someone different was better for him, because we can see that he’s still grieving for Wellie and Lassiter is trying to help.

The story took a different turn now that we have also the Bastards trying to kill Wrath. I actually liked the way lessers became less obvious in this war, because ever since Lash died they are not that good in creating havoc.
