Today author Quinn Loftis is answering some questions. I read and reviewed her three books on The Grey Wolves series and can honestly say how fun it was.

Why did you decide to write a novel?

It was something that I had always wanted to do, and finally at 31 I decided I wasn't getting any younger so might as well give it a go.

What do you think makes your book stand out in today’s market?

Although it is YA paranormal with were-wolves, which is the hot thing along with Vamps and Angels etc. I feel like one of the things that I repeatedly get compliments on is the humor in my books. I love to laugh, I love others to laugh so I try to make sure there is comic relief in my books.

Do you have any must-haves while you are writing?

Music, notebook, pen

What kind of books do you read in your spare time? Do you read the same genre that you write?

YA Paranormal, murder mystery

Can you tell us anything about what you are currently working on?

I'm currently working on Out Of The Dark, Book 4 in the Grey Wolves Series. It is due to release June 7th, 2012. After that it's on to Book 5, the title is still in the works.

What is one novel book that you would recommend?

Pride and Prejudice

Just One Drop
Book 3 in the Grey Wolves Series
By Quinn Loftis

Jennifer Adams, best friend to Jacque Pierce and Sally Morgan, spicy, out spoken, a little crazy and human...or so she thought. Jen has just found out that human DNA is not the only thing that resides in her veins, she happens to share that little pesky werewolf gene, although it isn't more than just a drop. Now that she and her friends are living in Romania with Fane's pack, she is also oh so conveniently stuck with the object of her affection, the fur ball Decebel.

Drawn to each other by something they don't understand Jen finds herself frustrated by the lack of mating signs between her and said fur ball. Not only is she dealing with that not so un-frustrating problem, she now has been informed that because of that little drop of werewolf blood in her she is now required to attended a multi-pack gathering for un-mated wolves. This type of gathering hasn't taken place in over a century but with a shortage of females among the werewolf population the males are getting worried they won't ever find their true mates.

Meanwhile Decebel struggles with the emotions he is feeling towards Jen. He tries to keep his distance but there is just something about the mouthy blonde that keeps him coming back for more of her verbal abuse that he just can't seem to get enough of...go figure.

My Thoughts:

This is the third book in this series and it as been so much reading about Jacque and Fane, but we all wanted to see more of Jen and Decebel after we discovered that Jen has one drop of werewolves blood and if they could be mated, because there were sparks since the first glance.

Things as always are not dull and this book had a lot of adventure and even more, making this one the most dark book in this series. Another pack alpha tries to attack the Romania pack and there’s an event to help mate single werewolves since the species is vanishing now with less and less females being born.

Back to the important couple. We have Jen and her great sense of humor and courage against Decebel, he’s the beta for Fane’s father and has a great power, plus he’s boring and of course Jen uses this to spin his world upside down. But the relationship is very difficult, since there’s no sight of mating, no tattoo and he can’t listen to her thoughts, but they decide to investigate and give this relationship a try.

I loved this book and can’t wait to see how these two are going to handle things together, especially since now they are separated and Jen is lost in the hands of danger. Cliffhanger made me so anxious.

Master's Hunt Final2

Today I’m going to talk about a BDSM book. Because sometimes we need a good erotica to get the kinks out.

Why isn't there more tickling?

by Verity Ant

As I pondered what to write for Book Travels, I considered some rather serious topics: masochism, permanent ménage relationships, the nature of submission in a D/s relationship. But these ideas seemed so deep and dark for this particular venue that I felt I had to come up with something a little more light-hearted. Although Master's Hunt is edgy, and in some ways deals with dark topics, it also has its lighter moments. Which got me thinking: what about levity in BDSM romance novels? Where's the fun?

I read a lot of romantic fiction, with a certain concentration on BDSM romance—that's what I write, after all--and one of the things I see all too often is that the humor is missing. It sometimes seems like a book is so focused on the methods and the deep, dark psychology of BDSM that they lose something that's a very important component of any human relationship. Where's the tickling? Where are the puns? Why isn't there more double-entendre and jocular wit?

When a comic writes a joke, they examine the absurd and startling and point that out to us. Non-humorists don't usually think in those terms; it's a very unique way to look at the world. So, while every novelist has her/his own methods for achieving the goal of a compelling published work, for me, even in an adventurous and edgy BDSM romance like Master's Hunt, I try to plug real people into the various roles. For example, I know a guy like the book's hero Kevin. He has a stunning wit. I remembered all the surprising and funny things he's said and his incredible timing and peppered the fictional character's dialog with bit of that. And I know a pair of submissives like Renee and Amiko. They tickle and giggle together, share girlish moments even while under the watchful eyes of their Dominant. That went into the book too.

No one expects a BDSM romance writer to be George Carlin or Ellen DeGeneres (thank goodness), but humorous elements make the characters more fulsome and real. When I read a book that doesn't forget the fact that people can be funny, I am pulled in deeply. There has to be balance in the characters in any novel—BDSM romance, thriller, murder mystery, etc.—and without that balance, including the humor, the book is more two-dimensional and less absorbing. I hope you can find the humor in Master's Hunt and in any book you read. Reality is funny sometimes. Fiction ought to be, too.

Kevin, Renee, and Amiko love each other. Like the triangle—the strongest geometric configuration—their love is both simple and complex, made more complex, perhaps, by the BDSM nature of their sexuality. Kevin is the apex of their union, a sexual sadist and dominant personality. His women, both intelligent and attractive, are submissive, but only to him. He would never harm them, but Kevin, driven by the narrow focus of his sexuality, finds pleasure in inflicting sexual pain in a controlled manner, rewarding good behavior with pleasure.

When Amiko is stolen from their triad, kidnapped by a crazy woman who fancies herself in love with the Asian beauty, both Kevin and Renee are beside themselves with concern for her welfare. They need to find Amiko before something ugly happens to her. From captivity, Amiko tries to help them, but her trail of “breadcrumbs” might just get her into more trouble than she is already in.

Kevin’s forceful nature demands that he take charge of the search and rescue operation. Renee’s love for her sister-in-spirit compels her to accept danger. Amiko must be saved. Any other outcome, the ruin of their carefully nurtured triad, simply cannot be borne.

Author Bio

Verity Ant is part of the writing team of Derek and Verity Ant. We write contemporary, very edgy, BDSM, erotic, romance fiction. Our books include heavy SM and ménage (M/f/f) as well as exploring D/s relationships in depth. They are all love stories.

Verity was educated in literature and social sciences and is a long-time member of a large, metropolitan BDSM community. She writes from experience with a sense of adventure and deeply erotic fantasies.

D.V. Ant writes non-traditional erotic love stories involving dominant male characters and submissive female ones. These books are not politically correct. The men are handsome, powerful and potent. The women are beautiful, graceful, sparky and submissive--not doormats.

There is a distinct element of pain inherent in these people's pleasure. He likes to give it, and she likes to receive it. This is the point of Sado-Masochism (SM).

Make no mistake about D.V. Ant's books: they are hard-edged. At the same time, they are ultimately love stories, even when that love is enjoyed by three people (always, in D.V. Ant's stories, one man and two women). These are stories with happy endings. Yes, it's romantic, but the idea is that good guys win (even sadistic good guys) and bad guys lose. The good guy gets the girl(s) and the bad guy goes to jail.
Someone always grows in these stories. They grow in character, tolerance, compassion and sometimes pain-threshold.

With the challenge complete and the corrupt Alpha of Coldspring defeated Fane is now free to complete the mate bond with Jacque and perform the Blood Rites. Although the challenge is done, the affects are far reaching. Once it is known that Vasile, one of the strongest Alphas in the world is in America, specifically Coldspring, TX, there is one Alpha who cannot over look the significance of this. An Alpha who happens to share Jacque's DNA, but is this the one she needs to fear?

With her mom driving and her two best friends, Jen and Sally in tow, Jacque sets off for her happily ever after. She will soon realize a plan has been put in motion that will change her course and possibly tear her from Fane's grasp forever. It will take a wolf pack, her mother's love, her two best friend's unrelenting determination, her own will to survive and the undying love of her mate to bring her home. The question remains, if she fights, if she endures, who will she be, what will be left once she is back in her mates arms?

My Thoughts:

This book picks up right after Prince of Wolves and it’s interesting how dangerous this world is and how far some people would go for a soul-mate, even forgetting a very important lesson.

So once again a crazy werewolf wants Jacque for himself and decided to stop her Blood Rites with Fane, but the most important part is that her father is in town and his wolf is doing a lot of danger around. After making her mother car suffer an accident that almost took her life, he decided to kidnap and bond her before she could finish the ceremony with Fane.

I liked this book a little better than the first one because we could also see more from Jacque’s friend and Jen is great. Her phrases and awesome and you can count that she will make every word a little dirty. Now it seems there’s a feeling between her and Decebel, we got to meet him on the first book and he’s Beta for Fane’s father.

Overall this book has dirty moments, a lot of hospital and dangerous paths as usual with crazy werewolves. But it seams everything will turn up better at the end.

Jacque Pierce was just an ordinary 17 year old girl getting ready to start her senior year in high school in Coldspring, Texas. When a mysterious foreign exchange student from Romania moves in across the street, Jacque and her two best friends, Sally and Jen, don't realize the last two weeks of their summer was going to get a lot more interesting. From the moment Jacque sets eyes on Fane she feels an instant connection, a pull like a moth to a flame. Little does she know that the flame she is drawn to is actually a Canis lupis, werewolf, and she just happens to be his mate; the other half of his soul. The problem is Fane is not the only wolf in Coldspring, Texas. Just as Fane and Jacque are getting to know each other, another wolf steps out to try and claim Jacque as his mate. Fane will now have to fight for the right to complete the mating bond, something that is his right by birth but is being denied him by a crazed Alpha. Will the love Fane has for Jacque be enough to give him the strength to defeat his enemy, will Jacque accept that she is Fane's mate and complete the bond between them?

My Thoughts:

I like werewolves stories and this one was a fun ride since the first page. I liked the interactions between Jacque and her friends, they sound like sisters, plus they talk in almost a different language.

Another part that I liked was the teenager part. We get to see how Fane interact with his family and learned how to treat his mate, plus discovering different things in the States. Originally his from Romania and his father is the mighty Alpha, with power to boss every pact know. Since he was a pup, he’s father trained him how to react for different situations and that helped when he discovered his mate and also a strange wolf demanding possession of Jacque.

It was a fun and adventurous read. The girls made even the most dangerous part, a fun and interesting pieces. The crazy wolf made Fane’s live very difficult and the fight was so hard to read, because I kept cheering for Fane.

I liked this book and had already read good things about it in several blogs and now had the time to read. It made every good comment worth it.

Quote:

“Alright then, I guess that’s settled,” Lilly said, then she turned to Fane, “Lay a paw on my little girl and you will be a three legged Lassie, got it?” Fane winced and then asked, “You both do realize I’m a wolf not a dog right?”

Out Of The Dark (The Grey Wolves, #4)
Out of the Dark
The Grey Wolves #4
Quinn Loftis

Darkness has descended on the Transylvanian Alps.

Four packs of the powerful Grey wolves – in a rare show of cooperation – had joined together here in an effort to help their pack members find true mates. Then they were betrayed by one of their own – an Alpha hell-bent on becoming the most powerful of the Canis lupis. And though the wolf's assassination attempt on the currently-reigning Romanian Alpha failed, his plans to get Decebel, the Romanian Beta, out of the picture were coming together even as his treachery was discovered. The wolf fled, leaving destruction, death, and a missing mate behind him.

Unbeknownst to the other packs, the wolf has employed a witch to finish the deadly job and help him gain another tool to increase his power. A curse of devastating proportions will cripple Decebel in a way that may dissolve his fragile bond with Jennifer. Meanwhile, injured and alone, Jen has been fighting for her life. She had come to terms with her fate, accepting that she would not share a life with Decebel, until help came in the most unexpected form...

Vasile will have to use all his resources – including Sally, the new gypsy healer of the Romanian pack – to discover a way in which to destroy the witch, lift the curse from Decebel and reunite him with the one woman who makes him whole, and solve a mystery that's been surrounding the Romanian pack for 300 years.

Today I have author Shae Wynters to talk a bit more about herself. Hope you guys enjoy and there’s also a giveaway at the end. Good luck all!

Why did you decide to write a novel?

I had this story in my head of a romance between a leader and a guardian. I always loved romance stories of the forbidden and where the hero and heroine bounce off each other through verbal barbs and clashing personalities. I had always been interested in writing a story about shapeshifters and the skinwalker legend from the Navajo tribe interested. That's when the idea for A Skinwalker's Legacy was born as well as the main characters.

What do you think makes your book stand out in today’s market?

I think the mixture of romantic suspense with paranormal elements featuring multi-cultural characters helps it stand out. I love paranormal romance and urban fantasy but I was bummed to see there weren't many focusing on MC characters in interracial and MC relationships besides the late L.A. Bank's Vampire Hunter books, Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson books and Nalini Singh's Psy books.

Do you have any must-haves while you are writing?

Coffee and noise. Strangely enough I love listening to something or having something on in the background while I write. Adding in a cup of coffee rounds out the whole 'author' feel where I can really feel like I'm being productive. It's a lovely environment to work in where I can achieve a nice comfort level to think. :-)

What kind of books do you read in your spare time? Do you read the same genre that you write?

Oh I love reading the same genre I write. Paranormal romance, Urban fantasy, romantic suspense. I also love science fiction and mystery. Books that mix the speculative with suspense are really awesome for me. I have way too many books on my shelf and in my reader at the moment!

Can you tell us anything about what you are currently working on?

I'm currently working on a historical paranormal romance story that I released previously under another name but now am doing rewrites on. I'm not one to usually write historical or read much of it, but this story really stands out for me because it's different in a sea of regencies, victorians and other European settings that feature scores of dukes, lords, ladies and rakes. This story focuses on a young bride who lives on the countryside where there is rumor of a howling beast in the woods. Her new husband is a much older man who 'won' her in a trade to pay off her parent's debt and it is his assistant who catches her eye and sort of awakens her heart and body to true love.

What is one novel book that you would recommend?

I would recommend Dark Lies by Vivi Anna. Actually I love all the Valorian Chronicles books. I loved the idea of a paranormal CSI series and I hope he continues to write this series. It's sexy, romantic, suspenseful and there's so much great world building around such fun characters that I had hoped the series would never end!

A Skinwalker’s Legacy
By Shae Wynters
Blurb –

Lexia Torrance is a young woman with the gift of second sight. Her ability allows the Phoenix Police Department to solve crimes based on the gift of touch. Her latest case leads her to the body of a local man left with the killers' calling card—an emblem burned on the victim's chest in the shape of a sun. She soon finds herself facing five men looking for the necklace with the same emblem…and they are determined to find her as well...

Galen Cortes knows the immense ability deep inside Lexia as well as her destiny to take the throne as Skinwalker Chieftess to the southwest tribe. As a guard of the tribe, Galen has sworn to protect Lexia and teach her the truth about her powers. Despite what his heart feels, he knows a guard isn’t supposed to get too close to a betrothed Chieftess. But his fiery passion may soon override his rational thought.

With a murderous Lycan tribe on their tail and only a few hours to spare once Lexia learns her birthright, Galen will only have a day to teach her what those before her learned in a lifetime. Before their time is over, passion will erupt between the guard and his ruler, a fateful battle will dawn between two tribes and a new Chieftess will arise within the nocturnal hours…

An excerpt

Lexia peered up at her reflection again, feeling the heavy sensation subside within her. Her breathing soon slowed down to normal. It would be a while before she could get to bed after that distraction. Sunlight would be rising in a few hours and she debated whether to stay up for the rest of the morning or call in for a day off to spend the rest of it in bed.

With a deep exhale to clear her thoughts, she flipped off the bathroom light and headed back into her bedroom to check the time. Two sharp red glows caught her eye on the opposite end of the room where her work desk sat against the wall.

The jewels on the necklace. Was it glowing before?

It called out to her in that moment just like it had earlier when she found it in the dead man’s living room. It took a lot of coaxing for her to convince Rudy to let her leave with it instead of logging it in for evidence. She told him she needed it to help further identify the perps. The explanation was partly true, considering it may help her if she could learn more about it.

She picked it up and watched the glistening gold metal catch the light of the silver moon outside her window. The ruby jewels appeared like eyes watching her from the comfort of her warm palm. Then she noticed the indentation on the face around the eyes and mouth. It looked slightly rough with grooves like the craters on the moon. Maybe it wasn’t the sun at all? Maybe it was a mixture of both.

Looking at it gave her reassurance for safety. Why did she feel so attached to it although she had never seen it before tonight?

The small jewels brightened into dazzling red shades as a shadow danced cross her window. Lexia’s gaze shot up. She followed the movement near the corner of her eye as her senses shot to full alert.

She reached over to the top drawer of her desk where her spare 9 mm rested—the same one Rudy had given her for protection. If anyone connected to tonight’s murder followed her, they would be plenty sorry after catching a few hot bullets between the shoulder blades. She dropped the necklace in the pocket of her pajama pants then checked the chamber to confirm the ammunition. All full. Good.

She’d never had any problems with intruders in the area. The neighborhood was relatively safe, according to the feedback she’d received before moving in. But if there was anything she learned in her line of work, it was that no one was ever wholly safe.

Shadows crept across the darkened living room windows as she stepped into the hallway. Her heartbeat was so loud she hoped it wouldn’t give her away.

Darkness immediately surrounded her, but it wasn’t the dimness of ordinary shadows.

The dark presence joined a larger group that covered every inch of the front yard. She gripped the gun between sweaty palms. A shadowy figure with broad shoulders stepped in front of the living room window. Blood chilling howls broke through the air as he raised his arm.

Lexia’s eyes widened at the sight of the large gun in his hands. The glass living room window panel exploded from the spray of bullets as she dived to the ground. She hit the wooden floor with a loud thud and curled up until the firing eventually came to a halt.

The man dove through the shattered open window and tumbled onto the ground into a kneeling position. Right away, he raised his large gun in her direction.

Lexia jumped to her feet and scrambled behind her favorite rocking chair recliner. She couldn’t quite make out his face but his massive intimidating impression was all too familiar to her senses.

“Come on, Lexia,” his deep voice was oddly calm yet somewhat enticing. “We just want to talk to you.”

She pressed her back against the rocking chair, propping her elbows up on her bended knees while still gripping the gun in her hand.

“That’s a pretty difficult way to talk with your bullets instead of your mouth,” she called over her shoulder. “I would’ve gladly opened the door to save the destruction of my house.”

“Somehow I doubt that.”

That’s it. Keep him talking. At least until you think of some way to get out of here.

He laughed, the low rumbling reverberated across the room. “The whole house is surrounded, Lexia. Don’t think you can escape.”

She gritted her teeth. The gun handle slowly slipped against her damp palms and she squeezed her grip to hold it tight.

“If it’s one thing I can’t stand,” she said, moving to her side, “it’s someone telling me what I can and can’t do.”

Lexia jumped away from the chair, pointing her gun with one hand while her free hand opened toward the figure. A stream of fire emitted from her fingers, setting the large man ablaze. He screamed, loud and preternatural like a tortured creature in binds. His flaming body fell against the back wall with a loud crash. Lexia made sure to cushion her fall before the cold wood collided against her body.

A shot of pain spiked through her arm and to her side, but the adrenaline pumping through her bloodstream knocked it to the back of her mind.

“What the--” How did I do that?

Her heart raced in her chest as her mind scrambled to think of a way out.

Back door.

Lexia jumped to her feet and sprinted toward the back. She nearly ripped the door off its hinges and tore across the soft, green lawn lining her pool. She was close. So close to being free.

The Nightwalkers have lived in the shadows of our world for centuries, gifted with abilities few humans can comprehend. For Noah, duty is all--until he meets the woman who is his destiny...

SHE WILL TAKE HIM BEYOND HIS WILDEST DREAMS.

As Demon King, Noah is dedicated to protecting his kind from their human and Nightwalker enemies. Yet for six months he has struggled with vivid dreams that threaten his very sanity. Every night he's tormented by images of a woman both achingly real and tantalizingly beyond his grasp. And his bone-deep need leaves him no choice but to force her to leave the life she's known and enter a world beyond her imagining...

Every day, Kestra risks her life in perilous missions that veer just shy of the law, but she instinctively knows that the imposingly sensual figure before her is a danger unlike any she's ever faced. Kestra has sworn never to trust or need another man, but Noah's lightest touch scorches her with fevered desire, branding her as his mate, blinding them both to the terrifying truth. For within the ranks of their own people lies an adversary growing in number and power. And nothing and no one will be safe again...
Desire awakens at night..

My Thoughts:

This was a long book and I find myself disturbed with the path this series has taken. For me the most important thing would be the couple and how they would deal with the passion and the situations this would lead them, but now it’s strange how the author pressed for the devil to find ways and destroy important places and attack again and again the most powerful.

I agree with that Noah should at least had tried to find his soul-mate, but knowing what would cause him and the path the destruction was leading him to, was a bit strange to see him forget about everything when he knew a way to save not only himself but Kestra also. I liked his presence and some choices he made on the previous books, but on this one, not the best.

Kestra was a bit strange since the start. I didn’t warm up to her and discovered that she could be better with another Nightwalker, because Noah needed a strong women but also someone that has a finesse too. And for me that’s not her. To make things go bum, anyone can do.

Not my favorite couple and a strange twist to the story line.

Rabid Reads - Cover Love

The Rules: Choose a cover (or two, or three), preferably new-ish, and share what you like about it. Grab my graphic or don't (just so long as you link back). I'll be posting Cover Love every Monday but feel free to post yours on whatever day works best for you.

For this week I’ve chosen two books and they look amazing.

House Rules (Chicagoland Vampires, #7)

House Rules
Chicagoland Vampires #7
Chloe Neill
February 2013 by NAL Penguin

I loved this cover and the series shows Merit growing as a vampire and learning more of life and love. Plus Ethan is pure sexiness.

In a city full of vampires, trouble never sleeps.

At the tender age of 27, Merit became a sword-wielding vampire. Since then, she’s become the protector of her House, watched Chicago nearly burn to the ground, and seen her Master fall and rise. Now she’ll see her mettle—and her metal —tested like never before.

It started with two . . . Two rogues vanishing without a trace. Someone is targeting Chicago’s vampires, and anyone could be next. With their house in peril, Merit and her Master, the centuries old Ethan Sullivan, must race to stop the disappearances. But as they untangle a web of secret alliances and ancient evils, they realize their foe is more familiar, and more powerful, than they could have ever imagined.

I first saw this cover on Wednesday I think and after comparing with the American decided that this one was better to show her. Loved how the faces are luminous and the girls are both looking directly at us. Sounds like a good read too.

Just because Mel lives in New Whitby, a city founded by vampires, doesn’t mean she knows any of the blood-drinking undead personally. They stay in their part of town; she says in hers. Until the day a vampire shows up at her high school. Worse yet, her best friend, Cathy, seems to be falling in love with him. It’s up to Mel to save Cathy from a mistake she might regret for all eternity!

On top of trying to help Cathy (whether she wants it or not), Mel is investigating a mysterious disappearance for another friend and discovering the attractions of a certain vampire wannabe. Combine all this with a cranky vampire cop, a number of unlikely romantic entanglements, and the occasional zombie, and soon Mel is hip-deep in an adventure that is equal parts hilarious and touching.

Trying to work things out with Nash—her maybe boyfriend—is hard enough for Kaylee Cavanaugh. She can't just pretend nothing happened. But "complicated" doesn't even begin to describe their relationship when his ex-girlfriend transfers to their school, determined to take Nash back.

See, Sabine isn't just an ordinary girl. She's a mara, the living personification of a nightmare. She can read people's fears—and craft them into nightmares while her victims sleep. Feeding from human fear is how she survives.

And Sabine isn't above scaring Kaylee and the entire school to death to get whatever—and whoever—she wants.

My Thoughts:

This book was a really difficult one for me because I started hating Nash after what happened on My Soul to Keep and the way he used Kaylee was very wrong, plus now he wants forgiveness and try to make things go back to the very begin like nothing had happened, like he remember everything.

Another problem was Sabine. She’s Nash ex-girlfriend and not a normal human, but it took a very long time for Nash and Tod to really explain things, but Sabine was not a good girl and was hurting Kaylee since day one.

Everybody acted on this book like Kaylee was looking for trouble when we all now that trouble always find her no matter what, so she was only trying to understand things and save people once again. Of course since Sabine is the new and different, plus trying to steal Nash, let’s put the blame on her.

I liked the story, was very dark and the plot really involving, but still don’t like how Nash reacts sometimes and why people just don’t believe her. she’s always right.

They are the Nightwalkers, mysterious beings who dwell in the shadows of our world, and Damien, the Vampire Prince, is among the most powerful of them all. But one woman will tempt him with a desire unlike anything he has known, and together they will face a terrifying and relentless foe...

HE'D NEVER LOVED. BUT SHE WAS IRRESISTIBLE.

As reigning Vampire Prince, Damien has tasted every pleasure the world has to offer--consorting with kings and queens and delighting in sensual adventure. Now, tired of such pursuits, he devotes his energies to protecting his people. The war between human necromancers and Nightwalkers has escalated, and when the enemy makes a daring move, kidnapping Syreena, a Lycanthrope Princess, Damien boldly follows. He succeeds in rescuing her, but is unprepared for the erotic longing her lush sensuality awakens in him.

Gifted with rare abilities, Syreena grew up in a cloistered setting and was forbidden to form attachments to others, yet the connection Damien feels with her is immediate, intoxicating, and impossible for either to resist. But claiming Syreena as his mate could have shattering repercussions for every Nightwalker--and leave their enemies more dangerous than ever before...

Temptation tastes sweetest at night.

My Thoughts:

Vampires can be really hot and dangerous but since I first read about Damien my thoughts were always about his humor. He’s fun and knows how to live and be happy about it. Of course he’s still their King so responsibilities and rules are part of life.

Syreena has know all about rules and duties, being a Princess for the Lycan made her life very boring while living with the monks, but now that her sister is the Queen, she can truly appreciate a little more freedom. After the Library was found things between the Nightwalkers became more easy and Syreena was sent to help the scholars. And that’s how the dangerous found her.

Damien was feeling some strange things for the Lycan Princess and after her found out she had been kidnapped his first thoughts were toward her safety.

I liked this couple and how these had to understand things together, plus discover some way to make people accept them. Syreena has wanted to find her mate for so long that Damien was a surprise and I wasn’t expecting this twist for the series, but they match really nice.

Books in this Series:

#3 – Elijah
#4 – Damien
#5 – Noah
#6 – Adam

Quote:

“She had told him that she loved him. He had known that, but hearing it in the traditional phrase had affected him in new and blinding ways.
Ways that made him believe that he could do anything.
Anything she needed or wanted him to do.
Because her loving him meant so much more than him loving her.”

The "First Lady of the West," #1 New York Times bestselling author Linda Lael Miller is back with a new series about Parable, Montana-where love awaits. The illegitimate son of a wealthy rancher, Sheriff Slade Barlow grew up in a trailer hitched to the Curly-Burly hair salon his mother runs. He was never acknowledged by his father-until now. Suddenly, Slade has inherited half of Whisper Creek Ranch, one of the most prosperous in Parable, Montana. That doesn't sit well with his half brother, Hutch, who grew up with all the rights of a Carmody. Including the affections of Joslyn Kirk, homecoming queen, rodeo queen, beauty queen-whom Slade has never forgotten But Joslyn is barely holding her head up these days as she works to pay back everyone her crooked stepfather cheated. With a town to protect-plus a rebellious teenage stepdaughter-Slade has his hands full. But someone has to convince Joslyn that she's responsible only for her own actions. Such as her effect on this lawman's guarded heart.

My Thoughts:

I love a good cowboy and this was actually my first book from Linda Lael Miller. Heard great things about her and now I can understand why people love her books so much. She’s a great storyteller and I felt compelled to visit Parable. Such a cute little town.

Moving on this book is more about introducing new characters I felt like the romance was a bit short. Don’t get me wrong the book is huge and has lots of stories but it tells more about the town and some things that happened a great time ago. This is a story of forgiveness and I wanted more romance.

Joslyn is such a great girl and suffered a lot after her step-father stole from the people of Parable. Now she decided to help these people and returned to town, but was so unwelcomed that I really didn’t understand why bother you know.

Slade is the sheriff and also a bit lost in the book. It took almost death for him to realize what he wanted since the beginning and he spent a few years in love with a girl that was far away not even knowing he existed.

I liked the town and some characters but the principal couple was not one of my favorites. Still is an introduction to a new series so give it a try and see how it goes. I’ll read the second and see if it’s better.

They are called the Demons, one of the elusive Nightwalker races living in shadow and struggling for survival against their human enemies. Their proudest warrior is Elijah, a man who bends for nothing and no one...until one woman brings him to his knees...

Some Feelings You Just Can't Fight

He is known as the Warrior Captain--a master of every weapon, a fierce soldier sworn to protect his kind. Powerful, relentless, merciless, Elijah has always won every battle he's ever taken on--until now. Ambushed by necromancers, he is left for dead only to be discovered by the woman who could very well deliver the final blow...Siena, the Lycanthrope Queen.

With three centuries of warring, little more than a decade of uneasy peace has existed between the Lycanthropes and Elijah's people. Now, after a lifetime of suspicion, the warrior in Elijah is consumed with a different battle--winning Siena's heart by giving her pleasure beyond all boundaries. What starts as attraction and arousal soon burns into a passion with consequences that will echo through the ages for both their people. And as would-be enemies become inseparable lovers, another threat approaches, one with the power to destroy them all...

Surrender to the night.

My Thoughts:

This couple was a surprise for me because I thought this series was about Demons finding their Druids, but them I realized that Nightwalkers is about several species and Lycan is one of them.

We got to see both Elijah and Siena in the previous books and they are great warriors, so for them to actually be together was a battle. Elijah was convinced really fast since demons believe in Destiny above all else, but for Siena things were a little difficult, especially because of her position as Queen.

I loved this couple, both are strong and still fear the unknown. Siena had a crazy father that made war just fro power so now she’s afraid to trust in men. Elijah has lived alone and as Captain in the war against the Lycan he’s pretty much hated, but still work to find his happiness.

Now we have a face to evil and it’s disgusting to think about the crazy demon attacking others just for power when he already had a lot. Still loving how in this time all Nightwalkers are working together to destroy the humans attacking them.

“But I must tell you that..." he paused and his voice filled with infinite gentleness and tenderness. "You are so very precious to me," he whispered against her neck. "You are my heart as it moves within my chest, my soul as it moves through my mind. The breath in my body that so fascinates you is your essence pouring in and out of me in a wave that drowns me over and over again until I cannot breathe for wanting you. Needing you.”
